Skype Mobile Phone

Skype’s now officially anounced Skype Mobile Phone. Britain’s mobile carrier 3 will start selling it on November 2 in the UK, and later this year in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Macau and Sweden. This will be the first mobile phone with Skype built in, meaning that calls to other Skype members are free. The phone will cost about $100 with a pay-as-you-go plan (for the non-Skype calls), or free with a monthly contract.

This may be a major shake-up in the telecommunications industry. Vodafone and others would have to start thinking

Where can you get one?

Adobe Preparing Full Shift to Web Apps

At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco last week, Adobe CEO Bruce Chizen said that the company is working toward shifting all of their apps online, but that it would probably take about 10 years for a complete shift. While the web as the computing platform of the future is currently a popular idea, and while prognostication 10 years out is rarely a good idea, we're skeptical that Adobe could pull off a full shift of its software catalog to Internet apps.

Compete! - Competition for Alexa

Finally, Competition for Alexa!

Are you a web metrics freak out? If so you probably have been using Alexa to access public site rankings and metrics. Here is another cool web tool.

Compete ! Its analytics tools, in effort to make it easier to follow online consumption for use by marketers. What started as a service for consumers last year has since shifted its focus in response to the market, as its service appeals more to marketers, bloggers and analysts more than consumers. Compete has always offered comparison tools for researching the behavior across websites.

AMF via AIR!

Adobe launched Adobe Media Player!
"Adobe is driving the next generation of internet video delivery with the Adobe Media Player (AMP), Flash® Media Server software, content protection technologies, and a broad and powerful ecosystem of partners providing key solutions from content creation through delivery and monetization. AMP brings the best of both the broadcast television and web video worlds to your desktop—providing high-quality content both online and offline, with a wide range of business model possibilities."

Adobe is getting into the Desktop Media Player business, which means they are competing with Microsoft's Windows Media Player directly and also this will make Apple compete on features. Adobe will innovate, Apple will innovate. This should bring some good features into the marketplace. It is also a major opportunity for Adobe to feed the Apollo ecosystem and show people the limitations of traditional desktop software.

One of the cool things I was able to see was a great deal of skins and customization that gave publishers an opportunity to really enhance their brand equity. Going from channel to channel, the level of detail and difference between the channels was impressive.

Make sure you have the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) installed for using this Tool.
